During May 2011, our recent donation helped to replant the Pere Marquette State forest located in the northwestern part of Michigan's lower peninsula. The hope was to improve the habitat for the endangered Kirtland's warbler. This migratory songbird can only be found in 14 counties of Michigan's peninsulas. Since the replanting the number of singing males has increased from less than 200 to more than 1,300 bringing the species back from the brink of extinction. In total 500,000 trees were planted over hundreds of acres at a density of 1,250 per acre to produce the thick cover required by the endangered Kirtland's warbler.
